Volume 136: Guest blogger Eric Atria presents Will Smith's "Miami" (1998)

Yesterday was my buddy Eric's birthday and he went to MIA for the weekend, so I told him he could do a guest spot and present the official Miami theme song of the late 90s (early 90s was Gloria Estefan, obvs):

Living in the city of Miami in 1998 was nothing like this song. Maybe it was a tropical, buxom, exotic beauty filled paradise for those visiting for two days (like Big Willy). But, for the rest of us living there, you were faced with miserable traffic, scorching heat, torrential afternoon thunderstorms, and a generally surly populace. Despite everyday reality, you couldn't go anywhere without hearing this song. Restaurants, bars, grocery stores, radio stations, television, basically everything with the capacity for producing audio was playing this song. For a while, we swore that the Mayor of Miami-Dade signed a manifesto ordering it to be playing at all times in some way, shape, or form.

Despite my cynicism, the late 90's was actually another resurgence for "The Magic City" and this video became the anthem.
