Usually I'd write this off as typical chart-topping country maudlin sentimentality, but I'm feeling sentimental today so I won't tear it apart. Plus, George Strait seems like stand-up guy.
I will say, however, that this song is pretty dang close to a ripoff of Randy Travis's "Forever and Ever, Amen." And if George Strait is a stand-up guy, Randy Travis is some kind of demigod.
PS I don't think country music videos were made yet in 1990! I could only find a live version of this one too!
