Adult Contemporary Week: Kenny G feat. Peabo Bryson "By The Time This Night Is Over" (1993)

Wow I guess 1993 was to adult contemporary what 1969 was to rock. Every song I've picked so far has been from 1993, and I didn't do it on purpose, I just picked songs I remembered. I have a theory about AC music that I call the Tier Theory. First tier AC songs are those that are never meant for pop crossover success. They are firmly entrenched in AC culture. Michael Bolton, Kenny G, and Peabo Bryson here are all first tier AC artists. There are plenty of songs by successful pop artists that hit on the AC charts, but those are second tier songs. The first tier stuff just has its own tone to it and is so smooth you feel like you could slide down it into a pool of velour.

This song is first tier all the way--it's like the Sgt. Pepper of adult contemporary.
